PLM-1 Transceiver: Interoperability

Abstract: Ariane Controls guarantees complete interoperability when using the PLM-1 asic along with a standard open protocol.
Interoperability is defined as the ability for different devices to co-operate in the performance of one or several global functions. Interoperability is evaluated, for communicating systems, at the various layers of the OSI model. To be deemed interoperable, communicating devices must use a common physical layer. They must, for example, modulate and demodulate bits by using compatible schemes, e.g., FSK at given frequencies. They must also have identical data encoding and representation, identical forward error correction and detection coding, etc. In addition, they must share a common procedure to access the medium, in order to allow fair sharing of the medium.
Since all physical layer functions are integrated on the PLM-1 silicon chip, PLM-1 guarantees perfect interoperability at the physical level.
To obtain fully interoperable products, users must implement common higher-OSI layers. Furthermore, achieving interoperability in a multi-protocol environment requires the use of at least one common protocol. Ariane Controls guarantees complete interoperability when using the PLM-1 asic along with a standard open protocol.
